My second best piece of advice
Is it too late to say Happy New Year and crack the wait-I-haven't-seen-you-since-last-year joke?? 👀 Oh it is? OK.
Moving right along!
I want to share my second best piece of fitness advice with you. Yes, second.
Speak to anyone who knows their stuff in the fitness industry and their top piece of advice may be along the lines of “get in at least 30 minutes of moderate cardio exercise 5 days a week and include activities that strengthen your muscles at least twice a week.”
Cool cool. Solid, sound advice.
But the implementing and keeping-it-up-ing can kinda trip us up sometimes, not true?
So my second best piece of advice is…
When in doubt, wuk up!
(For my non-Bajan friends, to “wuk up” is to wine up/gyrate one's waistline and hips in time to the beat.)
I got this from my dance group family Dance Machine (big ups!!) - we would always say this for when we forgot choreography or did a wrong step on stage. When in doubt, wuk up!
Those of you who have ever taken one of my Zumba/dance fitness classes know that this is my only class rule.
It means that when you have no idea what to do, do anything! Give me a two-step, or a jumping jack or a Carlton-esque groove - just don't freeze and stand still!
Something is better than nothing.
So while you know you're supposed to move your body regularly, whenever you get stuck, remember that you have PLENTY options! Such as:
trying something brand spankin new (aerial yoga? judo? paddle boarding?)
putting on a DJ Private Ryan soca mix and dancing like no one is watching in your living room (a fave!)
logging on to the gym of YouTube for a follow-along workout (check out channels like Grow with Jo, Shona Vertue, Juice & Toya & Fitness Blender)
Find something you like to do, and if you don't have anything yet, have fun experimenting with all the awesome options out there! (Important: you don't have to force yourself to do exercise you don't enjoy. While have mad respect for runners, it's just not my jam, so I don't run... unless it's part of the choreography… 😉)
OK y'all, that's my second tip to help you make that first tip work for you! I hope it. helps.
Happy moving Team!
